Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge

inspired by a Norse legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,

Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each heart.

They embrace with a love that will last forever,

And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

Penny - adopted 2002 - November 17, 2007
Penny was my first pit bull (probably a mix). I adopted her from my work's 'classified' ads. I was so anxious to meet her and when we finally did; it was love at first site! She ran right up my stairs, down the hallway to check out the bed and then she sat right next to me with her head on my knee. I had 5 wonderful years with Penny. Penny was my 'Single Girl' dog who would weed out all the stinker men I would meet. Then one day, Mr. Right showed up and Penny welcomed him with bully kisses! Glenn and I got married and moved to Virginia. About 1 year later, Penny thought that her work was complete and Penny passed away peacefully in her sleep. Penny is now waiting for us at The Rainbow Bridge. I can't wait to see her again!!

Skylar
Skylar was a 2 year old pit mix that lived her last 6 months of life in a county shelter. She lived the first year and a half at the end of a chain. Because of the neglect and cruelty of her owner, she suffered from aggression issues that could not be corrected. Skylar was unbalanced and very unhappy inside. She is now running around the rainbow bridge, chasing squirrels and eating yummy treats. She is waiting for her two saviors to meet her at the bridge and will still be there when that time comes.

Daisy: May 2008 - July 2010
Daisy, Daisy, Daisy... such a smart, sweet, beautiful Pittie girl. Before she came into my life I didn't know anything about Pit Bulls except what I had read in the newspapers or heard on the news. She changed my life and I will never be the same. Daisy had her issues but overall she was an excellent ambassador for her breed. Probably one of the smartest dogs I've ever known ... she was scary smart! Almost human in her ability to gauge a situation and figure things out. She had such an impact on me that I started fostering and volunteering with Bully Paws Pit Bull Rescue. God broke the mold when he made her. There will probably never be another dog like her in my life and I will miss her for a very long time. Rest In Peace, sweet girl ...
