American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Senior : : Large
This sweet senior pit bull mix was brought to a local shelter by animal control after being found roaming the streets. He was initially named Smokey by the shelter staff, but when he displayed his affectionate nature at his first Bully Paws adoption event our volunteers unanimously agreed we had to rename him Teddy – because he’s as sweet and cuddly as a Teddy Bear!
Teddy is the ultimate low-maintenance, laid back, “couch potato” dog, and would be perfect for all of those folks who have lamented “I would love to have the dog but am not sure I have the time,” or, “I don’t have a backyard so I can’t have a dog.” Teddy loves going for walks, chewing on his toys, and playing with the other dogs in the house, but beyond that he’s pretty much into naps and hanging out. This boy loves to snuggle and his favorite pose is belly up – waiting for a belly rub.
Teddy gets along with the other dogs in the house and will play with them but only for short time periods before he looks for a quiet place to take a rest. He is house trained but does not do well being crated (he’s a bit of a Houdini and has figured out how to escape every crate we’ve put him in). At his foster home, he is trusted to roam the house when his foster mom isn’t home and he is completely trustworthy – no chewing and no accidents. Teddy knows the command for ‘sit’ and he is learning ‘down’ and ‘wait’. He walks very nicely on a leash, no pulling at all, and is great with kids too. He has not been tested with cats yet but is great even with small dogs (he was even bitten on the nose by a Chihuahua and his only reaction was to look sad). Teddy know that he has to sit and wait for his food at mealtimes, and he shows no signs of food guarding.
Teddy loves all the other dogs he meets but loves his humans even more! Won’t you consider giving him a place in your family?
Teddy has been neutered, micro chipped, and is up to date on his vaccinations. He is “low” heartworm positive and is being treated through monthly oral preventatives.
If you have any questions about Teddy please email his foster mom Barbara at email@example.com. Thanks!
